“Hopefully this family tradition of growing grapes in the Light Pass area will continue for many vintages to come, and maybe somewhere down the track my boys will be growing grapes and making wine as my forebears have done for nearly eighty years”

KURTZ FAMILY VINEYARD

The Kurtz Family Vineyard is located at Light Pass, in the heart of the Barossa Valley, a region known for producing rich, complex Barossa reds. Our passion at KFV is making red wine, so we only grow red grapes. Our vineyard is planted to Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Mataro, Malbec and Petit Verdot.

At Kurtz Family Vineyards we recognise that what’s best for the earth is what’s best for our wines. We take the preservation of our fragile environment very seriously and understand that the healthiest vines grow in the healthiest soils. We follow sustainable grape growing practices from diverse cover crop selection to improve soil health and boost insect growth; to composting and undervine mulching; and introduction of beneficial predators for pest control.

We aim to honour in the bottle what Mother Nature so perfectly displays through the soil, the climate and the vine. With sustainable practices at the heart of our business, we hope to carry on this expression of responsibility to the environment so that the enjoyment of our wines continues for generations to come.

Lunar Block

Our flagship Lunar Block Shiraz is sourced from a block of vines purchased on July 20th 1969 – the day man first walked on the moon – and consequently has been known as ‘Lunar Block’ ever since. The vines now represent some of the oldest vines on the property. Low cropping with minimal irrigation creates vine balance ensuring fruit with great colour and concentrated varietal characteristics.
