Boundary Row Shiraz
Shiraz 2004

Winemakers Tasting Notes
The 2004 Shiraz is a full-bodied wine showing distinctive
savoury herbs, berry and pepper on the nose, with a
full flavoured palate with ripe fruit, savoury spices
and sweet oak.

A brooding, savoury, spicy bouquet leads to a palate
of plum, nutmeg and chocolate flavours that finish with
reasonable persistence. It's well backed by unobtrusive,
silky, dusty tannins and whilst it is not showing a
lot on the back palate now, hopefully it will fill out
with a bit of time. A clean, modern-style, it is medium-weight
with a supple consistency and solid structure, which
makes it a very easy-to-drink, great crowd-pleaser.
Rated as Agreeable with **** for value, whilst it's
approachable now, with another couple of years in the
cellar, the rating should improve. Ric Einstein, the
Opinionated Red Bigot, Torbwine, June 2007

General Notes
Vineyards in the Barossa Valley traditionally have no
fence lines to divide the properties of you and your
neighbour, instead a 'Boundary Row' is planted and the
yield from this row is shared. We would like to share
this 'Boundary Row' with you.
The wine consists of 5 different blocks that were picked
and fermented at differing times. Ferments lasted 7
days and were pumped over 3 times per day. Minor Acid
adjustment was undertaken at the crusher and then prior
to pressing. To add further complexity 2 different wineries
were utilized for ferment. Malo culture was added at
pressing with free run and pressings combined in all
cases. Parcels were kept separate until final blending
stage and the final blend remained in barrel for a further
4 months prior to bottling, this allows for full integration
of all parcels. A small amount of Malbec was added to
enhance the spiciness of the wine.

Reviews and Awards
Kurtz Family Vineyards Barossa Valley Boundary Row Shiraz 2004 Glycerol, dark-fruited, lightly spiced and 100 percent delicious. Coffee grounds, nutmeg, toast and blackberry, the wine slinking easily across the tongue, smooth and flavoursome. Fine, ripe tannins act as a nice complement. Not a long term wine, but in the medium term it offers easy satisfaction. Drink: 2007-2011. 90 points.
Campbell Mattinson “The Wine Front”: Reviewed 21.08.2007
2004 Boundary Row Shiraz: "Another good
value wine from a relatively unknown (apart from those
in the know) producer. The vineyards are located in
the Light Pass sub-region of the Barossa Valley. Lifted
aromas of rich berry, dark cherry fruitcake, pepper,
dried mint and a little sweet vanilla oak. Really fragrant
and attractive. On the full-bodied palate sweet ripe
berry and dark cherry fruit mixes with leather and dried
herb to create a fairly savoury flavour profile. A shake
of pepper and spice serves to add further interest.
Firm tannins and a little warmth from alcohol. Good
length. Packed with flavour and value." 90 points-Tasted
